Downhill mountain biking on Grand Chamossaire

The Grand Chamossaire downhill trail is one of the flagship mountain bike routes in the Villars-Gryon-Les Diablerets area. Starting above 2,100 metres, this purpose-built track offers around 3 kilometres of flowing descent with berms, jumps and technical sections designed for pure riding enjoyment.

Accessible from Bretaye via the Grand Chamossaire chairlift, the trail quickly plunges into a sequence of perfectly shaped turns before traversing the open alpine slopes overlooking Villars. Riders enjoy breathtaking views of the Vaud Alps, the Dents du Midi and the Rhône Valley while carving through smooth corners and playful rollers.

Designed as a blue downhill trail, it remains accessible for riders with some mountain bike experience while still offering enough features to keep advanced riders entertained. The combination of flowing sections and more technical passages makes it ideal for multiple runs in a day.

The trail opened in summer 2025, adding a new highlight to the growing mountain bike offer in Villars-Gryon-Les Diablerets.

A flowing downhill ride above Villars

The descent begins just below the summit of Grand Chamossaire, the iconic mountain overlooking Villars at 2,112 metres.

The upper section starts with wide berms and fast rolling terrain, allowing riders to build speed quickly. As the trail continues across the open alpine slopes, a series of jumps and rollers appear beneath the chairlift, making the ride both playful and scenic.

The final part of the trail becomes slightly more technical, with tighter corners and more natural terrain before reaching Bretaye, the central hub of the Villars ski and bike area.

Because of its relatively short length, the trail is perfect for multiple runs in a day, allowing riders to refine their lines and progressively increase speed.
