Solar Eclipse 2026 in Villars | Roc d’Orsay
On Wednesday 12 August 2026, experience the largest solar eclipse in 25 years from the summit of Roc d’Orsay in Villars. The Roc d’Orsay gondola and the Rocco Cantina Italiana restaurant will remain open continuously from 5:00 pm to 9:30 pm, allowing you to enjoy this rare moment from high in the mountains.
The eclipse will reach its peak between 8:15 pm and 8:20 pm. Elevated locations with an unobstructed view of the horizon will be particularly well suited to observing the phenomenon.

Head up at the end of the day, settle in facing the horizon and experience the eclipse in a unique Alpine setting. Certified eclipse glasses will be provided to restaurant guests to ensure safe viewing.
Mountain Cart extended until 6:30 pm
Two additional Mountain Cart sessions are scheduled at 5:30 pm and 6:30 pm, giving you even more time to enjoy the experience before the celestial event.

Safety
Eclipse glasses must comply with ISO 12312-2:2015 and carry the CE marking. Never look directly at the sun using ordinary sunglasses. Certified glasses will be provided to restaurant guests only.
Rocco Cantina Italiana restaurant
Located at the top of the gondola, the restaurant will remain exceptionally open until 9:30 pm for the occasion. Discover the special menu created by our chef and make the most of this unique evening beneath the solar eclipse.

Starters: Black olive breaded mozzarella; seared octopus, squid ink vinaigrette and lemon potato cream; roasted aubergine, Apulian burrata, Taggiasca olives and Parmesan crumble.
Main courses: Free-range black-legged chicken with confit porcini mushrooms; green asparagus risotto, white truffle oil and summer black truffle; squid ink linguine with king prawns and squid.
Desserts: White and dark chocolate mousse; Madagascar vanilla and cocoa tiramisu; blueberry and blackcurrant crumble with fior di latte ice cream.
